As Campbell Soup Company Grows into New Product Markets, Safety & Accessibility Take Center Stage

As a global leader in the high-quality food market for nearly 150 years, The Campbell Soup Company is no stranger to the importance of safe and sound business practices. When facility manager Dan Junge discovered that existing rooftop access ladders presented significant safety hazards for operators, he knew replacing them was necessary, yet not without challenges. Predictable safety hazards such as rust, slipping, and durability are unavoidable as fall protection equipment ages, however, Junge recognized that his options for fixing the access ladders in his facility presented a unique set of obstacles. When he contacted ErectaStep, it was clear that installing a full-access system with safety stairs and platforms was the proper solution. Junge had prior experience with our products and was impressed with the ease of installation and finished look of the application. The SixAxis sales team determined that ErectaStep was the perfect solution for their roof parapet wall access. ErectaStep’s modular aluminum system proved to be the right choice.

Rather than renting a massive crane, only a forklift was needed to lift the individual modular components up to the roof.

ErectaStep sales representative Dan Cole explains, “This allowed us to carry the components to their respective installation sites on the roof, which resulted in significant financial savings for Campbell’s.” In addition, they were able to avoid an expensive modification of the roof structure below to support the weight of the ErectaStep aluminum stair system. “In the end, we were able to save the company time and money by implementing a safer solution for the existing roof versus a customer fabricated steel system,” says Cole.

The Campbell Soup Company project site is located in Northwest Ohio and is subject to extreme temperatures and harsh weather conditions. The aluminum stair system is maintenance-free, ready to withstand ice, snow, and rain with ErectaStep’s superior traction from slip-resistant stair treads and platforms. ErectaStep installations also eliminate the need to repaint periodically to prevent the stairs from rusting. “We were really impressed,” states Junge. “ErectaStep’s components are designed with OSHA compliance at the top of mind. Their systems provided all of the facility managers with extra peace of mind. ErectaStep continues to be the perfect solution for The Campbell Soup Company.”
